Mineral Wood

Smoking embers of sacred wood offered as a gift, as a ritual seal to an austere and elegant silence, where the fresh and luminous smells of citrus fruits contrast with the depth of the smoky woods, in a continuous olfactory whirlwind, where an arbitrary incense covers and envelops with its metallic mineral notes, in search of a horizon where the sacred and the profane merge in a fraternal and indissoluble purple embrace.


My olfactory memory:
The atmosphere I breathed during the services held in the Basilica Santuario Maria Santissima del Mazzaro in Mazzarino, my mother's hometown, where the embers of an austere and clerical incense smoldering from a laborious Sunday incense burner were united in an indissoluble embrace with the enveloping breezes loaded with citrus fruits, woods and resins that, coming from the surrounding fields, filled the baroque naves of a church full of charm and mysticism.
