When Clementine Cope set foot in snow deeper than her knees, she knew it was the last time. Leaving the rural Montana home where he had grown up, with no plans other than to follow the sunset, he got up each morning and headed out into the heat, dreaming of Dennis Wilson, shoving in the sand, and convertibles.

His journey covers thousands of miles and allows him to see the ocean for the first time. When summer arrives, Clem is consumed by an incomprehensible joy. He finally stops traveling when he settles into a run-down surf camp with his new friends in the hills of Topanga, California. Now he realizes for the first time that his journey has only just begun.
